Description:

Since 2012, Bada mountain is one of our personal favorite place and we spend many days and travel there, many times. Visit different villages and tea gardens.

Bada 2015 come from an Bulang village old tea garden, most of trees was cut in past. It´s old Bada mountain large leaves kind of tea trees, in taste very close to Zhanglang village teas.

The tea trees grows in the forest in more than 1600 metres high mountain. It's not easy to pick.

Our tea is picked from wild arbor trees grow in the wild between March 22 and April 4. We found local tea makers who know the tea well and have good skills. Hand processing in every step and sun-dried, traditional stone pressed in Menghai town. Dark long leaves and silver buds are similar with Bulang mountain teas.
Brewed tea is yellow sparkish with specific and original flower/citrus aroma. Powerful but mild, exquisite and full, pleasant bittersweet at the beginning later change to sweet and long lasting aftertaste.

This tea is in very good price/quality range and we recommend buy this tea for long term storage.

2015 ChawangPu Bada

5 stars 4.5 This review helped: 0 / 0

Excellently processed cake. The tea contain a lot of buds. Comparing to 2013 ChawangPu BaDa Zhang Lang is the difference just in the tone of cake’s colour. Structure is almost the same.

Comparison of 2013 ChawangPu BaDa Zhang Lang and 2015 ChawangPu BaDa Old Trees

Rinsed leaves smell after flowers and fruits. Colour of the brew is light yellow.

The first infusion is gentle, sweetish and little astringent.

The second brew is pleasantly herbal, sweet with astringent finish and with just a little bitterness. The remaining astringency in the aftertaste is stimulating salivation. An finally there is this very pleasant herbal aftertaste. Well, it is herbal teaste, but different from Lao Yu. BaDa Old Tree has perfumed odour, gentler than Lao Yu. The other infusions are full, just a little bitter, astringent and herbal. It is an easy drinking tea. The energy is not as big as Lao Yu. BaDa has more relaxing chaqi.

Comparison of 2013 ChawangPu BaDa Zhang Lang and 2015 ChawangPu BaDa Old Trees

BaDa Old Tree is very well processed. Leaves are nice and there is quite a share of buds. Tea’s character in general is cultivated. Comparing to “Lao Yu”, what is also from BaDa region, is BaDa Old Tree smoother and gentler. Lao Yu processing is slightly poorer and the character is wilder, bitter. BaDa Old Tree is the good choice for those who loves young shengs to drink now. Well, even weaker stomach can easily take in this tea. In case of fresh Lao Yu 2015 you need to have a good belly.

Aging …

We tried the sample of 2005 „Zhang Wei Bada“ Raw Puerh Cake to have an idea how BaDa can mature. This tea matures well (sweet after caramel, smooth taste, but aging goes quite slow. May be a dry Kunming?). So, in regards to possible aging of 2015 Chawangpu BaDa Old Tree – hard to say, I am not wizard, but I am giving this tea a chance :) The price is $20 for 200g cake (2015).

Quotes - Pu-erh

„There is also a lack of formal definition for "gu shu." Some say "gu shu" should only refer to trees over 300 years of age, that is left to grow tall, and not pruned back. But in reality, most "gu shu" trees are cultivated, which entails annual pruning to encourage regrowth & lower branches for easy picking. A lot of "gu shu" on the market comes from trees as young as 100 years old, some of which is as short as 1.5m high. But a 100 year old tea tree growing in the wild can also grow higher than 3m high. Eventually the government will legislate what classifies as "gu shu." Until then, let the buyer beware!“

Quotes

„Smoothness, Softness and Character of Puer Tea
Puerh tea is a type of post-fermented tea. When stored in the correct environment the tea, over time will change, hence - post-fermented. Due to this, the bitterness and astringency will slowly transform. The flavour will soften, become more mellow, rich, the character will become more rounded and mature.“
