Description:

This puer tea cake is made from a 2013 pure Spring blend of gushu [old tree] material from the Menghai region, heavily weighted with Bulang region material taken from forest areas (as opposed to old growth from old tea gardens) . Intense kuwei [bitterness] and potency that will not disappoint lovers of brute strength. We promise.

The total production of this tea was under 30 kilograms. 357g Cake

New Amerykah

5 stars 4.5 This review helped: +1 / 0

This tea has been produced by White 2 Tea store owner. According to his words, he did not follow traditional processes, but made tea while bearing on his mind what puerh really means to him personally. The cover is composed of enlarged pixels, which reminds him of the game he used to play as a little and the name itself is taken from the name of the album of the singer Erykah Badu - New Amerykah Part 1&2.

Tea in dry form smells sweet fruity / herbal, and slightly smoky. After rinsing the leaves it releases a beautifully scent. A smokiness is still slightly present in the smell.
Brews are pretty strong / full, with a strong but pleasant bitterness, astringency is decent with fruit-herbal ingredients. The richest infusions were 2nd, 3rd and 4th, then the bitterness and light smokiness fades and remains herbal - fruity flavor. Tea has great stamina and is packed with energy. Although it is a young tea, my stomach digested it without any problems. Spent leaves look healthy, robust, some are dusky.

I am glad that I managed to buy some cakes, and I wonder how it will develop in the future. I am also looking forward to taste this tea successor – 2014 New Amerykah 2.

Gu Shu America

5 stars 4.5 This review helped: 0 / 0

We acquired this interesting Gu Shu tea in March 2014. They were actually the last available cakes before tea was withdrawn from sale. It is a pure Gu Shu, a wild tea trees from areas of Menghai and Bulang. Price of tea from wild tea trees is skyrocketing every year. Some pu-erh lovers are speculating about a "bubble" on the market with a wild tea, but the demand far exceeds supply and the price of Gu Shu tea thus grows and grows. So, I am afraid, we cannot expect any "bubble bursting" soon.

Dry tea smells nicely. Leaves are nice and it contains a lot of silver buds. The smell of steamed leaves is very fruity. The taste is bitter, but not a significantly bitter. It is a pleasant bitterness. It is a blend of Menghai and Bulang. Astringency is decent. Aftertaste is sweet. Endurance is excellent.

The argument that it will not disappoint fans of "brute" force was confirmed. Personally, I like stronger tea, but this is almost on (my) edge :-) After the third cup, my head is vibrating with energy and heart beats very fast. The energy is so strong that tea brings up almost disturbing tension. This state does not last long and after about 15 minutes it gradual releases.

It will be an excellent tea in about 5 years, I guess. Let's see what will happen on market with Gu Shu tea in 5 years and also what will be a price for this tea...
This tea was bought for a fair price of $68, concerning the fact that it is a Gu Shu tea. Interesting how we are getting used to such prices for yang pu-erh :-)

We got a tip on an interesting shop in Beijing – White 2 Tea. They have a good approach to selling tea - see the description of the shops - a sample of New Amerykah was super. We managed to buy the last few cakes before the tea was withdrawn from sale :( Unfortunately the price of pu-erh is constantly rising, as was also the case in New America. Cakes are currently on the way, so far only a few photos...

Quotes - Pu-erh

„The important thing of all this tea drinking and learning is not so much the drinking itself, but the critical reflection and evaluation that takes place simultaneously. Forget about what others tell you – what do you feel and think when you’re drinking this tea? How does it compare with what you have tried? How does it challenge what you already think you know?“

Quotes

„Pu-erh tea processing, although straightforward, is complicated by the fact that the tea itself falls into two distinct categories: the "raw" Sheng Cha and the "ripe" Shou Cha. All types of pu-erh tea are created from máochá (毛茶), a mostly unoxidized green tea processed from a "large leaf" variety of Camellia sinensis (C. sinensis assamica) found in the mountains of southern Yunnan.“
