Description:

The best type of clonal tea, which was possible to taste this year. A wonderful, spicy, attractive and clean aroma with hint of citruses, delicate flavor. Harvested only from selected tea plant P312 and produced under the supervision of one of the finest Darjeeling teamaker Mr. J.D. Raie.

The summer harvest, known as the ‘Second Flush’, makes what are reputedly the best teas in the world. What makes them so distinctive is a special tinge of sweetness. These teas are delicately rolled and processed to preserve the natural character in them. Brownish leaf with random tips, opulent flowery golden cup, and full bodied with an abundant sweet muscatel flavour.

Disappointment

5 stars 2.0 This review helped: 0 / 0

After an excellent first harvest from the same garden - Darjeeling Thurbo Moonlight FF 2013 - I was looking forward to this tea. Unfortunately it is disappointment for me. But let's start from scratch. The beginning was promising. Leaves are nice, whole and are quite large. Tea contains a lot of buds. Wet leaves smell beautifully fruity after overripe fruit. The first infusion is brighter; the taste is very light and slightly resembles "moonlight" from the first flush. I expected that the taste will develop, raise and highlight in the second and third infusion, but unfortunately it did not happened. The taste is still very light, dull. If you try to prolong steeping time, bitterness will appear. The same if you add more tea, again there is bitterness. It seems to me as the tea was too baked. I also tried cooler water, but liquor is then weak, faint. The price was quite high - $12.25 per 50 grams and it was not a "wonder" and certainly not "delight".

4 g per 150 ml gaiwan, water 95°C - 30s/5/10/15/20

Quotes

„Mr. Gao showed us how to identify gu shu (ancient tree) tea leaves by looking at their texture, rubbing them between your fingers, and eating them raw. Old tea trees produce thicker, more leathery leaves that don’t easily come apart when you rub them. And gu shu buds should be white & shiny. When you chew them, the flavor is very bitter but there is also a strong sweet fragrance, and the juice is relatively easy to swallow. Tai di cha (terrace plantation tea) is also bitter but with a strong, lasting astringency on the sides & front of the tongue, and the juice is harder to swallow.“
