Description:

This is one of classic recipe from Langhe tea factory which is similar with 8542 from Dayi. This tea is composed from blend of 2005 and 2006 spring harvest from Menghai area. This is first batch in 2006 (601) and is far way better than later batches.
Clean orange tea soup with nice herbal and flower aroma, strong, pungent and rich in mouth with fast huigan. Some bitterness and powerful feeling give to this cake good potential for long term storage!

"8549" Menghai Langhe TF 2006

The first three infusions were quite rough - sourness, astringency, sweet metallic after taste. I did not like first, but other infusions have settled down, sourness disappeared, remained less astringency, mild bitterness, full flavour. Interesting cooling effect in the mouth. Finally, it is not a bad tea. It probably needs shorter steeping times, colder water or less tea. Price is $25. They say it is suitable for long-term storage. For me, it's little bit above average, I give 3 stars.

It was quite long and difficult tasting to make a decision… There is still quite outstanding astringency in initial steepings. There is also strong energy present. Taste is nicely mature in later steepings. Well it is now (2015) 9 years old tea with a good potential to further ageing. So, finally I purchased the whole tong.

Quotes - Pu-erh

„There is also a lack of formal definition for "gu shu." Some say "gu shu" should only refer to trees over 300 years of age, that is left to grow tall, and not pruned back. But in reality, most "gu shu" trees are cultivated, which entails annual pruning to encourage regrowth & lower branches for easy picking. A lot of "gu shu" on the market comes from trees as young as 100 years old, some of which is as short as 1.5m high. But a 100 year old tea tree growing in the wild can also grow higher than 3m high. Eventually the government will legislate what classifies as "gu shu." Until then, let the buyer beware!“

Quotes

„ye sheng; 野生 - Wild, feral. Whilst there is still a comparatively large number of truly wild tea trees in Yunnan, most tea does not come from them, coming rather from arboreal trees.i.e. trees that were originally cultivated, but then left untended for many years, or bushes. “
